ベネッセアートサイト直島
The Chichu Art Museum opened in 2004 as a place where architecture and artworks are closely and radically connected. The building, designed by Tadao Ando, is mostly buried underground except for apertures that let in natural light. The “exterior” is a garden, which is composed of artworks and the ridgeline of the surrounding hills. In the museum, artworks by three artists, Claude Monet, Walter De Maria, and James Turrell, are permanently exhibited and directly communicate with the architecture.
建築とアートワークがより緊密で、先鋭的に結びついた美術館として、2004年に開館しました。安藤忠雄設計による建物は、外光を取り込むための開口部を除いてほとんどの部分を地中へ埋設。収蔵作品にちなんだ庭園や丘の稜線が、「外観」を構成しています。館内には建築空間と拮抗するクロード・モネ、ウォルター・デ・マリア、ジェームズ・タレルら3作家の作品が永久設置されています。
